Sunday Chess Dates Extended!

We have added a few more dates for 

Sunday Chess in May!

Chess will now run on Sunday, May 7, 14, 21. Registration is required for new participants. Grades K-12, but participants must know how to play already. Participants will have the chance to learn new skill and strategy, build teamwork skills, and play with peers.

Friends of the Library Used Book Sale!

The Friends of the Library Annual Used Book Sale starts Thursday! The Book Sale offers thousands of used books available at affordable prices. Proceeds from the book sale allow the Friends of the Library to continue to support the many programs we have all year long!

A Summer to Remember

Read for the Win

Summer Readers set new records this year with a 26% increase in participation! Readers filled in our Olympic Rings to kick of the 2016 Olympics and earned prizes along the way.

A huge thank you to all summer readers!

We set records for programs this summer as well! Some of our top programs this summer included Life Size Candy Land, Lego League Jr., Maker Madness, and Let The Games Begin!

Additionally, we had a group of amazing volunteers this summer who put in many hours helping with programs! They had a positive impact on our programs! A huge thank you to Savita, Kayode, Janie, Zina, Chris, Maggie, Rithik, Ashna, and Sophia from the Youth Services Staff!

True Balance Karate Class

Last week we hosted True Balance Karate for a karate class. 
Paul Helsdon, the Chief Instructor from True Balance Karate taught a variety of age groups some of the basics in karate. By the end of the class, everyone was able to break through a board!! 

Everyone looked like they were having a lot of fun and able to take away something new from course. True Balance Karate has also donated one of our coupons for Summer Reading prizes. Readers have the chance to earn a coupon for a FREE month of karate lessons, a free private introductory lesson, and a free karate uniform. There is still plenty of time to sign up and participate in Summer Reading!

Spring Programs @ Oak Brook Public Library

Read, Know, and Grow @ Oak Brook Public Library with our exciting Spring Programming we have offered March - May, 2013!

• Weekly Storytimes will be offered for children 2 years - 2nd Grade begining March 12th and will run for 6 weeks (with no stroytimes the week of March 25-29). Come on in to the Youth Services Department or call to register, but hurry up spots fill quickly!
• There will be a new drop-in family storytime starting in the spring. Families can stop by the library one Sunday a month to enjoy books, music and being together! 
• SPRING BREAK EVENTS - Come in to the library the week of March 25-29th for fun events planned while school is out! Events everyday Monday-Thursday like Crafts and Bingo!

Blockbuster Book Club

Do you like reading a good book and then sharing it with others? We will meet once a month to discuss and learn fun facts about the book and author. See the Circulation Desk for a copy of the book. Snacks will be provided.   




Winter Break Bingo

Bring your family and friends for fun and prizes! All ages welcome! This program will take place in the Friends of the Library Meeting Room, no registration is necessary. 






Create a Craft

Feeling creative? Come to the Youth Services Department and make crafts to take home! All ages welcomed.

Teen Read Week

Today marks the beginning of Teen Read Week! The goal of Teen Read Week is to encourage young adults to read for fun and increase awareness of library resources available for this population. 

Miss Theresa at the Oak Brook Public Library has put together an exciting week of fun activities and promotions specifically for our young adults. 

Sunday 10/14 (and throughout the week)- Candy Jar Guess for ALL AGES. Come to the Youth Services Desk to see if you can get the closet estimate to win a jar full of candy. Including Twizzlers and Sweet Tarts some of Miss Cate's favorites!









Monday 10/15 - Teen Movie Night with Popcorn! We will be hosting a showing of Mel Brook's Young Frankenstein (PG)  in the Youth Activity Room at 6:30 PM. In the movie Dr. Frankenstein's grandson (Gene Wilder), after years of living down the family reputation, inherits granddad's castle and repeats the experiments. This comedy with sci-fi elements you will be sure to enjoy. 





Tuesday 10/16 - Incredible Bats program at 6:30 in the Friend's Meeting Room. Interested in animals? Have you ever wanted to see a real bat up close? Well this is the program for you! Come find out more about these interesting animals and how beneficial they are to us and the world.  Find out more at http://www.incrediblebats.com/.





Wednesday 10/17 and Thursday 10/18 - Popcorn Study Night in Youth Activity Room from 5-9pm. Grab your friends and come finish your homework together while chowing down on popcorn at the library!







Friday 10/19 and Saturday 10/20 - Teen's Free Film Certificate with Book Check Out!
Teen's will get a FREE DVD or Video Game Rental when they check out any book at the Oak Brook Library.
