'Twas the Night Before the Friends Library Book Sale and Silent Auction
(Based on the Clement Clarke Moore poem 'Twas the Night Before Christmas)
'Twas the night before the Friends Library Book Sale and Silent Auction
not a page was stirring not even in Library Mouse (a very good picture book by Daniel Kirk available in Youth Services)
all the books were lined up on the tables with care
in hopes that happy browsers would soon be there
The prospective browsers were all nestled snug in their beds
While visions of biographies and mysteries danced in their heads
And Mama in her pajamas and Dad in his robe
Had just settled down for an evening's doze
The next morning the shoppers awoke
with glee they drank their coffee and ate their toast
They excitedly waited for the sale to begin
in hopes of grabbing that dog-eared copy of
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
They dashed to their cars at a quarter to twelve
with such glee in their eyes picturing that book written by Rosemary Wells
that would soon line their own bookshelves
In they rushed with excitement they could not contain
for the wide variety of books was purely insane
Romances, fantasy, cookbooks, and chick lit, too
From Sophie Kinsella to Robin Cook
This sale was quite worth the look
The buyers hurried home to peruse their literary fare
and reminisce about all the wonderful books they had seen at the library sale
