DIY Banks: Financial Literacy Month

Today we had a great maker's workshop that goes along with this time of the year. This month of April is Financial Literacy Month. It's a month to help kids learn about savings and money. One way we want to encourage learning about savings is through a story. To encourage kids to save money, we followed the story time with some personalized bank-making.

We started with small, wooden banks. Next we we used acrylic paint, and blow dried that paint to speed up the process. Once the paint was dry, students in the class chose gems, stickers, and decals that made their bank their very own.
