The Graveyard Book: Book Club Edition! FAQ

Who: Hopefully you, a copy of The Graveyard Book (available for our book club at the circulation desk), and Librarian MD. (Well, hopefully there will be other people there, too.)

What: A Book Club. No, not the cheesy ones in novels. We're cooler, and have food. And possibly tea and hot cocoa, if I remember my kettle.

Where//When: Next Thursday, August 7th @4p.m.//Youth Service Meeting Room//Oak Brook Library

Why: If you haven't read any Neil Gaiman books yet (tssk), or if you are looking for a memorable read, please give this story a try. It begins on a darkened night, with a chilling opening scene in a family home where a young boy is left an orphan at the hand of a mysterious killer. Still a child, he wanders, searching for company, until he comes across a graveyard; a graveyard filled with all sorts of spirits beyond the grave, who come to raise the young boy into adulthood.

So, with my book sales-pitch/summary out of the way:
At book club meetings we discuss the material we read in a fun way (I'm not about to pull an English prof. on you), and because Librarian MD is hosting this time, we may have tea. Or we may not. Depends if she remembers her tea kettle.

Best, and if you want to come, pick up a copy of The Graveyard Book at the circulation desk.

MD

Bricks For Kidz: A Lego STEM Event

We were so glad to have such a large turnout at one of our latest youth service program, Bricks 4 Kidz. At this event well-over 60 kids and parents took part in this lego crafting extravaganza, which promoted learning and promotion of STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) careers. To have so many kids come out for this program was great, and we are hoping to host more events like this in the future.

Here are some pictures of this event:
